I am getting ready to retire at the end of the school year. What steps should I take?
Start by checking your options in the Teachers’ Contract or Classified Policy, whichever is appropriate. A letter of intent should then be addressed to the superintendent with your retirement date and your chosen options stated. Around January of the school year in which you plan to retire, you should contact Teachers’ Retirement Fund or Public Employees’ Retirement Fund and have them send you a retirement packet. Be sure a letter of intent was sent to superintendent before May of the previous year in which retirement is planned.
