    The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County is a progressive district. Committed to excellence, our schools have received local, state, and national recognition for achievement.  All of our schools are accredited through AdvancED focusing on continuous improvement. Our current school district enrolment is 2,775 students. We are a G Suite for Education District, and we are 1:1 with Chromebooks at all grade levels. Our district employs 200 certified and 214 classified staff to instruct and serve our students. Please visit our school sites for more details on programming, curriculum and assessment practices.     The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County in partnership with our families and community provides all learners with challenging, engaging, and innovative educational experiences that inspire them to be tomorrow's leaders.

    Faculty and Staff


    Our school district has an enrollment of 2,737 students. There are 205 certified and 178 classified employees serving our students. Our teachers and instructional assistants meet all reequirements for Indiana teacher licensure and ESSA.  In compliance with Title I Part A, this notification is to inform you that you may request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher or the professional qualifications of any paraprofessional that may provide educational services for your child. This information may be obtained by contacting the Title I Program Coordinator at the MSD of Steuben County Central Office at 260-665-2854, Extension 1311.


    The School Board of Trustees declares it the policy of the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County to provide equal educational and employment opportunities regardless of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, and where applicable marital status, familial status, parental status, domicile, disability, genetic information and medical testing, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender expression, political beliefs, reprisal, or any legally protected characteristic.     The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County is located in the northeastern corner of Indiana, just minutes away from Michigan to the north and Ohio to the east. Steuben County geography includes 101 lakes throughout the county.  Lake James, the second largest natural lake in the state, is only five miles from Angola, the county seat. Trine University, located in Angola, provides educatinal opportunities, as well as cultural and athletic activities for our students.

    Schools

    Our public school system offers a well-rounded academic and technical curriculum for all students from kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition to the regular curriculum, special programs for the academically and intellectually talented and the vocationally motivated students are available. The high school offers many dual credit options on and off campus. The MSD of Steuben County is a member of the Northeastern Indiana Special Education Cooperative that provides for the special needs of students with various disabilities. The district is a partner with Impact Institute, providing courses for students who will select careers in technical fields. The Educational Opportunity Center is an alternative education program provided for high school students who need an unconventional setting to complete graduation requirements. 

    Our schools offer something for every student. We work hard to identify each student’s strengths and weaknesses and devise programs to meet their needs. We believe that if our community, state, and nation are to progress, we must provide our future workforce with a new level of knowledge. Our schools are committed to preparing students to meet the technological challenges of the future. All students in K-12 have personal technology devices for classroom instruction. 

    The M.S.D. of Steuben County offers athletic activities for boys and girls as well as an array of extra-curricular activities and programs. From basketball to wrestling, from music to drama, numerous programs are available for all students. We believe athletic and extracurricular programs are necessary to help students develop not only academically, but physically and socially as well.

    Guidance and counseling services are provided for students at each of the six schools. After school child care is offered for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In addition, health and social services are available to all students.

    Angola is located in the northeastern corner of Indiana, Steuben County borders both the Michigan and Ohio state lines and is just a few hours away from Detroit (160 mi.), Cleveland (180 mi.), Indianapolis (160mi.), and Chicago (180mi.) Lake James, the second largest natural lake in the state, is located only five miles from the city. Interstate I-69 is accessible slightly west of Angola, while the I 80-90 access is directly north of the city. Ohio borders Steuben County on the east, and Michigan borders the county on the north.

    Our school district consists of four elementary buildings, a middle school, a high school, and an alternative school.  Each school offers a challenging curriculum that is aligned with national, state, and district standards.  Our comprehensive programs support exploration, creativity, and individual development while offering instructional support for every student.  M.S.D. of Steuben County also provides excellent opportunities for our students to participate in performing arts, academic competitions, student organizations, athletics, and numerous other activities. 

    We believe that a nurturing and caring environment enhances a student’s self-confidence and contributes to his/her success.  Our quality team of outstanding educators, support staff, administrators, and school board members are committed to providing the best learning opportunities possible for our students, but their hard work and dedication are only a part of the equation.  It takes the support and involvement of parents for their children to reach their full potential.  Together, as a team, we will deliver the quality education that our students need to be successful.
