Mr Newhard’s class was studying a science unit on weather and the effects of it. As a class we had to use various materials to build storm shelters that went trough wind and rain tests. Many were successful!
If your 5th-grade students fell in love with an instrument during sessions in school recently, sign up for the band in middle school and get your instrument ready to go. Come to AMS on Tuesday from 5-7 and meet with representatives from Sweetwater to start the rental process.
Second grade just completed the Head in the Clouds science unit. After researching different types of clouds, students created a cloud model. The model included cirrus, stratus, cumulus, and cumulonimbus clouds. The students did a great job of using creativity to show off their knowledge!
For the month of February Hendry Park students are working to raise money for the American Heart Association through the Kids Heart Challenge. The Roadrunners are also working hard in PE to complete the Jumprope Ninja Challenge! We already have four students who have earned their black belt! Congratulations Rileigh, Easton, Kolbie and Lily!!
MSD of Steuben County faculty and staff participated in a professional development day on Friday, Feb 16th. Everyone attended sessions and education clinics about safety, reading, writing, and many other subjects.

Yesterday our schools celebrated 100 days of school or 101 days in our case since the official 100 days was an elearning day. Celebrating 100 Days was started in 1979 by a teacher named Lynn Taylor. She chose 100 days because was a concrete idea that students could grasp and celebrate. The idea quickly spread and is now celebrated in schools across the nation. Our schools celebrated in a few different ways. Some staff and students dressed like 100-year-olds, and activities revolved around activities counting to 100. Due to snow/fog our first day back in the classroom was 101 days, so some celebrated by having lessons around 101 Dalmatians. Learning I Fun.

Before we had some snow days Mrs Burris’ first grade class was able to learn about Martin Luther King JR and what he did for our country . He wanted everyone one to be equal and for us to all be friends no matter what color or race we are.

Thank you for your flexibility over the last several days as the weather has caused a lot of disruption. Please know that tomorrow, January 19th will be a live learning day ONLY if we need to close due to road conditions.
Many of you had great questions concerning our no eLearning days the past two days, so below is some of the rationale behind that decision.
We have had three synchronous days over the course of two weeks.
We thought our kids, parents and teachers could use a break from the computer and enjoy a traditional “snow day”.
We also wanted to ensure that all teachers have the opportunity to be prepared for a synchronous day. Without having been back to the buildings, it was likely difficult to gather all resources or planning materials for the upcoming day.
