Dear MSD of Steuben County Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As we enter the winter season, we would like to take a moment to inform you about our procedures in the event of weather-related delays and closures.  While we strive to maintain regular school schedules, safety is our top priority. In cases of inclement weather, the school district may implement a delay or closure to ensure the well-being of our students, staff, and community.  In the event of a weather-related delay, we want to prepare you for the possibility of transitioning to eLearning for the day. This allows us to continue the educational process while ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

Here's what you can do to ensure a smooth eLearning experience:

  • Check for Notifications: Stay updated with announcements from the school district. We will use various channels such as our website, social media, and local news stations to communicate any delays or closures.  Check to see if your student is on for self-paced or teacher led learning.  The first three learning days will be self-paced.

  • Set Up a Learning Space: Create a conducive learning environment at home. Ensure your child has access to necessary materials, a quiet place to work, and a stable internet connection.

  • Technical Readiness: Make sure that your child's device is charged and in good working condition. Test the internet connection to avoid any disruptions during online classes.

  • Review Schedule and Assignments: Encourage your child to review their schedule and any assignments or tasks provided by their teachers. This will help them stay organized and focused throughout the day.

  • Contact Teachers for Support: Should your child encounter any difficulties during eLearning, our teachers will be available for assistance via email or any communication platforms they have provided (Google classroom).

  • Take Breaks and Stay Active: Encourage your child to take regular breaks, stretch, and engage in physical activity. This will help maintain focus and productivity.

We understand that eLearning can present unique challenges, but we are committed to providing the best support possible for your child's continued education.  Please remember that the safety of our students and staff remains our utmost concern, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding in these situations.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.

Warm regards,

Dr. Matt Widenhoefer, Superintendent
