It is FFA Week AND CTE Month!
These two appreciation events come together to celebrate our Agricultural Program. We are proud to offer this pathway, where students can take classes such as Principles of Agriculture, Animal Science, Horticulture Science, and greenhouse and soilless production. This program helps develop skills and knowledge that prepare students to become professionals in the agricultural field and beyond.
FFA at AHS is run by our Agricultural Teacher, Hollee Lanman. FFA is a unique organization within the school that requires members to be enrolled in at least one Ag class. The organization gives students opportunities to grow in leadership and provides direction and purpose for students who take an active role in their success in agricultural education.

Since the inception of this program, students have earned 42 SACA Certifications and 35 OSHA 10 Certifications. Of those SACA certifications, 37 were knowledge-based (Silver) and 5 were skills-based (Gold).
So far this year, students have already earned 23 SACA certifications, including 4 Gold.
The skills students gain in these classes prepare them to step directly into the workforce and set them up for future success.

Each week, these future educators volunteer their time to plan and deliver engaging lessons t. On some days, our āteachers-to-beā collaborate, practice their lessons, and provide one another with thoughtful peer feedback to ensure they are fully prepared for teaching on the other days.
They taught Our Money, a five-part financial literacy unit, and they did an outstanding job! Not only did they build their instructional skills, but they also gained valuable real-world experience ā especially when it came to flexibility and problem-solving during our unpredictable winter weather. āļø
Most importantly, our high school students experienced firsthand what it meant to serve and give back to our wonderful community. We couldnāt have been prouder of their dedication, professionalism, and heart for learning.
Way to go, future educators! šš

Working in teams, they designed and built boats using foam, straws, plastic spoons, and foil. Once their boats were complete, it was time to test them! Each boat was placed in water, and pennies were carefully added one at a time until splash! The boat sank!
Afterward, students discussed their results, comparing which designs held the most pennies and analyzing why some boats sank faster than others. They connected their observations back to material properties and density, deepening their understanding through real-world experimentation.
It was a fun and engaging day of learning, filled with creativity, teamwork, and scientific discovery!
