In the world of education, some teachers stand out not just for their expertise, but for their unwavering commitment to growth, learning, and making a difference. Becky Knight is one such educator.
Becky loves to travel, she has been working on her goal to visit all 50 states before she is 50, she only needs New Mexico and Hawaii to complete this bucket item. Throughout her travels, the Pacific Northwest holds a special place in her heart, particularly for its incredible whale-watching opportunities.
Beyond her travels, Becky finds solace and expression in quilting. Her artistic journey has been particularly focused on landscape and portrait quilting, transforming fabric into intricate storytelling pieces that reflect her creative spirit.
Family means everything to Becky. She cherishes her time with her nieces and nephews, frequently traveling to support their sporting events. Her unique position as a teacher allows for special after-school moments, a routine they've maintained since her nieces and nephews were in kindergarten.
Becky has been a part of MSDSC for 24 years, 12 of those at Carlin Park. Her achievement of a master's degree in Gifted and Talented Education is more than just a personal milestone; it's a testament to her commitment to supporting extraordinary students. As the district's Gifted and Talented coordinator, she's one of the few with this specialized license.
Becky's professional philosophy is rooted in continuous improvement. In the last five years, with the district embracing the science of reading and innovative teaching methods, she has had to relearn her approach to teaching math and reading, Her willingness to challenge her own long-established practices demonstrates her dedication to student success.
A lover of books, Becky's favorite novel is "A Wrinkle in Time." Her passion for literature extends to authors like Kate DiCamillo, whose books she believes offer profound emotional experiences for young readers. During her college years, she discovered a love for fantasy novels that continues to inspire her teaching and personal reading.
Her favorite motto encapsulates her approach to life and education: "Be the good you wish to see in the world." This mantra reflects her belief in personal responsibility and positive action, a principle she actively shares with her students.
After busy days in the classroom, Becky finds peace in quiet moments at home. When she seeks social connection, she enjoys dinner with friends or treats herself to a relaxing massage.
Becky reflects on her teaching career by saying "Even on my crazy days, I would pick this again,". It's this passion, this unwavering commitment to education and personal growth, that makes her truly exceptional. We are proud to have this amazing teacher as part of our community.

School Bus Safety Week.
If a busā stop warnings ā red flashing lights and stop sign arm ā are activated, the rule is simple. Stop. And be mindful of the danger zone around a bus: 10 feet in front of the bus, where the driver may be sitting too high to see a child; 10 feet on either side of the bus, where a child may be in the driverās blind spots; and behind the school bus.
